Partial Hospitalization Program for Adults

Our Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) is for adults, age 18 and older, who do not require the 24 hour supervision provided by inpatient treatment.

Hickory Trail Hospital’s PHP is the most intensive level of outpatient treatment and is often the next step following inpatient hospitalization, but many individuals enter PHP directly.

Patients participate Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. This  includes an on-site lunch break at our facility located in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metropolitan, Texas, area.

Patients are in treatment for four hours per day, five days a week. Program length is individualized; patients often spend one to two weeks in PHP, then may transition into our Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP).

Hickory Trail also provides 24/7 assessments, click here to schedule one.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the impact of stress significantly impacts adult mental health. It’s natural to feel stressed or anxious, but a large amount of stress can have negative effects on not only overall health, but mental health as well. Stress can cause the following:

  • Feelings of fear, anger, sadness, worry, numbness, or frustration.
  • Changes in appetite, energy, desires, or interests.
  • Problems concentrating or making decisions.
  • Physical reactions, such as headaches, body pains, stomach problems, or skin rashes.
  • Worsening of chronic diseases and mental health conditions.
  • Overeating or not eating enough.

Studies show that therapy for anxiety usually works better than medicine, but sometimes both together works best. You can also help lower your stress and anxiety by:

  • Getting active: even a quick walk can be calming, and the effect can last for hours.
  • Doing some relaxation exercises, like meditation or yoga.
  • Calling or texting a friend who understands you (not someone who is causing you stress!).
  • Grabbing some “you” time. Take a break from whatever you’re doing. Go outside, read something fun—whatever helps you recharge.
  • Limiting alcohol and caffeine, eating healthy food, and getting enough sleep.

The behavioral health professionals at Hickory Trail Hospital understands the daily life of stress and events in adults lives that can’t be controlled can raise the probability of having mental health issues. PHP for adults at our facility can help with finding how to cope with the stress and anxiety that life brings.
